Along and above the water there are waterway signs: boards, lights and sometimes a flag. A sign can prohibit something, require something, report a restriction, recommend something or tell you something. The signs are in annex 7 of the Inland Navigation Police Regulations (Binnenvaartpolitiereglement), and almost all of them are exam material.
In lesson 1 you learn how waterway signs work: which ones you must obey and which ones you take into account, what comes first when a sign says something different from a rule of the road, and what shape and colour already tell you. After that come the signs for passing through and overtaking, for who may sail there, for berthing, anchoring and mooring, the mandatory signs and the main waterway, the restrictions and additional plates, and the signs at bridges, weirs and locks.
