About this chapter

Engine trouble is the most common reason a boat needs help on the water. That is why in this chapter you learn how your engine works and what you check before, during and after a trip. The law says almost nothing about the technology: what you learn here is mostly what you do in practice. Always know the manual of your own engine as well.

In lesson 1 you learn the difference between diesel, petrol and electric, and how you keep the fuel clean. After that come the cooling, the way from the engine to the propeller and the steering, the checks before, during and after a trip, and the batteries and the environment.
